I'm livin' my life like its golden Livin' my life like its golden... Livin' my life like it's golden…. golden, golden

"I'm strumming my freedom, playing the God in me. Representing his glory Livin' my life like its golden… golden, golden

This is a snippet from Jill Scott’s hit song, Golden from the album, Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2 released in 2004. I love the song, such powerful words! To me it is a declaration, an anthem and an inspiration to live a golden life. Living life like its golden means living the life you love; your best life now. You are not there yet but you are striving to live your life to its fullest potential, making the decision not to take anything for granted but instead, you rise in gratitude, being thankful for the ups & downs of life. As you live golden, you have decided to adopt the right attitudes and the overcomer’s mentality knowing that life is less about what happens to us and more about how we choose to respond to it.

Here are some important points to keep in mind.

Add a Closing Message

1. Strive for growth not perfection Perfectionism is a trap which makes one pursue flawless outcomes and refuse to accept any standard short of perfection. In many cases, this may not even be possible since perfection is nothing but a figment of your imagination. Life is challenging and as we wallow in self pity and self doubt, we tend to assume the grass is greener on the other side and others are living better but someone might be watching and wishing they had what you have. Choose to pursue growth and enjoy the journey.

2. Everything happens for a reason.

Always look for meaning in your current situations and circumstances. It will help you find purpose for the things you are going through. Finding meaning will help you get through tough times and find peace even in the midst of chaos. You might not be exactly where you hoped you would be, but you're here for a reason -- what is it?

3. Learn from your experiences.

One negative experience does not define who you are, what you are capable of or what your life journey or future would be. If you failed an exam, lost a job, have a broken relationship; decide to make peace with the situation, learn from it and grow from the lessons learned. If you let one bad experience define you, then you accept the wrong message that life stops after one bad experience or mistake.

4. What does success mean to you?

Take a moment and be real honest with yourself. Write down in your journal your definition of success. Do not let the expectations of the society, people around you and your loved ones cloud your reasoning and influence your thoughts. What do you consider as success? If for you, success means travelling the world, write it. If success means making a million dollars a year, write it. If success means marrying a great partner and raising a wonderful family, write it down. Accept your version of success and own it. This will keep you grounded and focused in trying times when self doubt, negative self talk or the opinions of others make you lose confidence and you question your life journey.

Finally, look for all the things that make your life golden, from surrounding yourself with positive people, enjoying good music and food, to serving others with your gifts, traveling around the world and everything in between. I hope you are inspired to find and live your own golden life. We only get to live once, so we might as well make it count and live it like its golden!
